My Mother’s Hands

May 6, 2010

Slender hands
Delicate, fragile hands

Hands made to caress, to comfort, to adorn
Hands strong enough to hold, to mend, to fight

The hands of a queen
The hands of a warrior

Hands powerful enough to heal the wounds of a skinned knee
And a broken heart

Hands talented enough to create water-color visions
And culinary delights

Hands soft enough to soothe
And rough enough to command

Hands gentle enough to wipe away tears
And tough enough to protect

Hands magical enough to fend off nightmares
And real enough to hold

The hands of an artist
The hands of a healer
The hands of a goddess
The hands of my mother

My son-in-law gave my a drawing of my daughter’s hand. It evokes similar emotions. Happy Mothers’ day to your mom
